"Ethiopia Mile One"

This statue stands directly across from Saint George's Cathedral. Built to celebrate the Ethiopian Victory in the Battle of Adwa, which concluded on Saint George's Day, the square is the destination for civic celebration to mark the victory as well as the feast day of Ethiopia's patron saint. In addition, all the roadside distance markers throughout Ethiopia gauge their distance to the square.
