Located on a 45-minute drive from Alii Drive in Kona and 20 minutes or less from the timeshares and grand resorts along the Kohala Coast, this restaurant and nightclub is certainly one of the most unique on the island. A quick turn off Akoni Pule Highway toward Kawaihae Harbor will bring you right to the entrance of this island hot spot. This is a spot to spend an evening of fresh fish entrees and live music that ranges from classic rock to reggae. On weekends, the locals will show up to show off their island styles, fancy wheels and even fancier dance steps.

Located in Kawaihae just minutes from mega resorts and upscale neighborhoods along the Kohala Coast, this casual eatery has become an area staple with a reputation for good prices, fresh seafood and friendly service. It's a perfect spot for tourists who want to venture away to someplace more authentic and spend a night in a local character. Menu features everything from pizzas to burgers and lots of fresh fish.

This little café is just one of a handful of small local eateries along the entrance to Kawaihae Harbor. The space verges on cramped, and is simple and functional with plain signage. The menu is typical, offering several plate lunch specials and sushi for a reasonable price. Folks who work at the loading docks across the street come for a quick and affordable lunch and a cool drink to get some relief from the hot tropical sun. The panko-breaded local catch is certainly a winner for a cheap and tasty dinner while the shrimp tempura salad is worth the hassle of hunting for that elusive parking stall.

Kohala Burger and Taco is one of the smaller shops in a small cluster of shops and eateries in Kawaihae, but not one to be overlooked. The burger place is a perfect spot for yummy, juicy burgers and flavorful tacos. This burger spot prides itself on using island grass-fed beef and homemade tortillas. The prices are a bargain, especially when you compare it to nearby resort offerings, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The eatery is very small, but what lies inside this cheery eatery is perhaps one of the best deals in the neighborhood. Skip the resort food and enjoy more for a lot less.

Cafe Pesto opened in 1988; a time when the island's culinary scenario was pretty much at a nascent stage, and today after the dining scene has evolved by leaps and bounds, it still remains one of the best places to relish Hawaiian food. Standing within the Kawaihae Shopping Center, this is the first of the two stellar locations on the island and offers and excellent menu of fresh seafood and a mouthwatering selection of island inspired pizzas, pastas and more. Chef Moses utilizes the best of the island's locally sourced produce to come up with a fantastic range of time-tested classics as well as contemporary takes. The restaurant interiors sport a light tropical theme with great use of natural elements and Hawaiian-inspired artwork on the walls. The chequered black and white floor on the main dining rooms goes well with the mellow palate on the walls. There's a good play of natural light and an airy feel throughout the establishment. Stop by for a refreshing experience.
