For fans of fresh pasta and Italian-inspired cuisine, this delicatessen, ideally located just steps from the Vieux-Port, can be recommended for its tasty lunches and rapid service. The Salmon Ravioli, agnelotti à la forestière (lamb) tiramisù, and nougat ice cream taste so authentic that you will think you are on the other side of the Alps. Take-out is also available, so you can enjoy a delicious treat at home. Fresh, delicious produce, and a friendly staff make this an address to remember.
This long-standing pizzeria is practically part of Marseille's foundation! The pizzas are good and are oven-baked over a wood fire. The toppings are pretty basic: cheese, mozzarella, anchovies … (the anchovy is a Marseilles and Mediterranean specialty). Other than pizza, Pizzaria Maga is also known for its Provencal-style supions (fried squid): a true delight! The rest of the dishes on the menu are commonly found. Another advantage is that Pizzaria Maga is just across from Place Castellane. It is nice to stroll around the market in the morning just before a good pizza at lunchtime! The service can be slow but the personnel is kind. Reservations are a must, whether for lunch or dinner. - P.Wicki
If you're fed up with run-of-the-mill sandwich fillings, let this place whisk you off to the heart of Italy for something a touch more exotic. Indulge your passion for Parma (ham) paired off with melt in the mouth mozzarella, whilst Bresada cold cooked meat and black olive spread are just made for each other. Used in a wide range of snacks these simple, tasty ingredients are also available separately at the deli counter. Prices are reasonable and it's the perfect lunchtime snack stop if you're in a hurry.
Fans of Italian food should make their way to La Cantinetta. The menu mixes both traditional dishes and meals with a more modern flair. Open for both lunch and dinner with outdoor seating in the summer months.
Primarily a concept born from the love of the best Mediterranean foods, Fuxia is a restaurant chain that also exists in Paris. The place includes both a restaurant and an Italian deli/gourmet shop. The restaurant cooks up three or four different dishes each day, so the menu varies daily. It’s good food and the service staff is very friendly. Creative, hearty dishes can also be ordered as specials (formule express EUR14 lunchtime only on weekdays or formule aperitif: antipasti and two glasses of wine). The terrace is heated in winter, perfect to enjoy a limoncello sorbet any time of the year!
For the past 12 years, this establishment, located in the heart of Marseille, has offered buffet dining and southern cuisine. The "all-you-can-eat buffet" includes simple regional dishes like spiced and marinated sardine fillets, caviar d'aubergines (eggplant mousse), and grilled peppers. For a main dish, you can take your choice of meat cuts, aloyau, bavette or faux-filet, accompanied by the sauce of your choice. The dessert buffet is also unlimited, so you can go back for seconds. It is worth noting that champagne is complimentary for birthday dinners, and that Beaujolais Nouveau is free, during the week of its arrival.
