Mumbai is the hub of the Indian film industry. And it is in Film City that most of the movies are made. These studios are located away from city life, on a secluded piece of land in the vicinity of Aarey Colony in Goregaon. There are large studio complexes for indoor shootings, and facilities like recording rooms, theaters, gardens, lakes, and heli-pads. The Film City is only open for admission with prior permission.
The Jogeshwari Caves are just off the Western Express Highway in Jogeshwari East. It is easy to miss the caves so keep a careful eye out. Classified as endangered, it is recommended to visit them soon, before they disappear altogether. The cave also houses one of the earliest Hindu temples. Built around 550 AD, it has a main hall with a Shivalingam and idols of Hindu deities Dattatreya, Ganesha and Hanuman carved into the wall. There are also remnants of statues of Dwarpalakas or door-keepers.
Open spaces are rare in a metropolis like Mumbai. However, the Lokhandawala area in Andheri West is blessed with a huge green area called as the Lokhandawala Garden. It is very well maintained and is convenient for jogging and walking, with separate tracks for both. Local residents, which also comprise several Bollywood personalities, are regulars here. Laughter clubs and yoga workshops are held regularly. So, while you jog, you might even get a chance to rub shoulders with famous faces.
The Joggers Park at Oshiwara in Andheri (West) is situated right in the middle of the three major residential areas of Lokhandwala, Oshiwara and Millat Nagar. It is a favorite among the residents of these colonies for its landscaped garden, a well laid out jogging track, and the beautiful water fountain. Several seats are available for joggers to relax and catch their breath. Drinking water and toilet facilities can be found at the park. There is also a kids area for little ones to pass their time. A reasonable entry free is charged for the upkeep of the park.
A sprawling area of lush greenery, Joggers Park is a popular landmark of Thakur Village. Fitness conscious come here for a walk or a jog while others can be seen spending quality time with family and friends in this peaceful environment. The garden also has a children's play area that is equipped with slides and swings for kids to play.
Located in the plush suburb of Powai, Powai Lake is one of the most beautiful places in the concrete jungle of Mumbai. A natural lake, once surrounded by hills, is one of the best places to be at one with nature in the city. You can enjoy a calm boat ride or just sit at the Powai Lake Garden and enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings. The plush locality of Hiranandani Gardens is situated very close to the lake. Beware of the crocodiles though! Swimming here is prohibited.
Extremely popular amongst the locals, the Evershine Dream Park is spacious and is generally also referred to as a Children's Park. This lush green park sports several rides for children, a play ground and a food court. Situated in Thakur Village, one of the highlights of this garden is a toy train that runs along a huge track laid in the garden. Usually the garden is crowded with families and children on weekends and serves as one of the major attractions in this area.
Set between a vast swathe of mangroves on one side and the vast residential complex of Lokhandwala on the other, Joggers Park is an ideal spot for a brisk morning jog or a relaxing evening walk. Thanks to the mangroves that hug the park on two sides, the park is always cooler and pleasant than the heavily-crowded area nearby. The park has several seats for joggers to relax and catch their breath; toilet facilities are also available. The park is often frequented by fitness-conscious celebrities that live nearby.
