Get into a healthy lifestyle at the Mittleman Jewish Community Center. This community center is more than a century old and invites people of all faiths to join in. The Mittleman Jewish Community Center features a fully-equipped gym where you can burn those extra kilos. Besides the regular weights and cardio regime, this community center has zumba programs and sauna, steam rooms and whirlpool facilities. In addition to this, the community center has swimming pool and massage facilities to unwind after a tiring workout. Mittleman Jewish Community Center also houses event spaces which host art performances and cultural programs. Even your little ones get their share of fun as Mittleman Jewish Community Center has a playground and arranges for various camps regularly.
A former hotel for Sellwood Log Mill workers, this building was the city's second community center. Offering classes and activities, the place is open all year and can be rented for events. Inside, there is a kitchen, gym, classrooms, office, lobby and restrooms. You will also find a playground outside the center, which is centrally located in the heart of Sellwood eateries and shopping. While in the area, be sure to check out the nearby antique stores. There are no fees to use the park, unless the center is reserved for an event; fees depend on the event.
Portland State University's Native American Student and Community Center is a center for the benefit of Native American, Pacific Island Indian Service Organization and Alaskan Native students. It organizes a number of programs and activities for the students enrichment and development. Host to a number of University events, it also exhibits a number of fairs. This beautiful and spacious structure is a good venue for different types of events.
p:ear is the collaborative effort of Justin Oswald, Beth Burns, Joy Cartier and Pippa Arend. Founded in 2002, it stands for project: education, art, recreation. It is a kind of community center for the youth between the ages of 15 to 24, who are homeless or are in an unstable environment. This facility aims to foster a conclusive relationship with them through various educational and mentoring activities that are creative. The safe and positive setting of this center helps these kids to forge strong relationships and bring a stability in their lives. From training, clothing to physical welfare and education, their needs are met by this institution. They also offer arts, music, recreational and other programs where these individuals can hone their skills. p:ear’s also hosts art exhibitions and live performances regularly. It is available on rent as well for events.
