This beach is just north of Playa de los Muertos and is a picturesque outdoor destination. It is busy, but not as crowded as the beaches near the hotel row. Vendors are rare, so you will need to bring your own equipment if you plan to snorkel or dive. The beach does have quite a large selection of restaurants, however. Many of the food entrees nearby include camarones (shrimp), in honor of the beach's name. Scenic and breezy, Playa Camarones is popular with tourists and locals alike.

Los Arcos is an eco-preserve with a pleasant environment. All things natural are protected here, making it a popular tourist attraction. This is a federal underwater park that offers people the opportunity to snorkel and scuba dive in a rare environment. Go underwater and investigate the brightly colored fish and steep rock walls that protect this marine area. If you aren't comfortable being in the water, try a glass-bottom boat tour. You will see many of the same species from there as you would by swimming below the surface.

Splash is a waterpark featuring water slides, a river run, dolphin and seal shows and even the chance to swim with dolphins. A visit here is a great way to keep the entire family happy while cooling off from the blazing sun. The Kamikaze, Torbellino and Deslizzer slides will surely pump up anyone's adrenaline.

The Mexican government protects this island wildlife sanctuary, El Moro that sits just offshore from Puerto Vallarta proper. Most of the protected wildlife resides beneath the surface here at El Moro. Go scuba diving, the most popular way to spend an afternoon while visiting the island, and look at the many fish and sea turtles that have made the reefs a comfortable home. Glass-bottom boat rides are also a convenient way to see all of the underwater life without getting all wet. If you have a little more time, try some cave exploring.
