"World's Largest Cave"
Vietnam's Son Doong Cave is the largest cave in the world, surpassing the previous record holder in the Malaysian section of the island of Borneo. This impressive cave is 5.5 miles long and could fit a 40 feet skyscraper in its walls. The inside includes a jungle as well as a river, with treasures such as waterfalls and cave pearls to be found. Monkeys and flying foxes are among the animals that inhabit the cave, as well as a variety of plant species that have recently been discovered. With lush jungles, algae-blanketed rock walls and crystal clear waters, Son Doong Cave is truly a mystical destination to behold. So far Oxalis Adventure is the sole operator with permission to run tours to this cave, and there are only a certain amount of tourist permits available a year. The tour includes a team of safety experts as well as professional guides to help you embark on an adventure of a lifetime. Price is $3,000 per person. Please check the website for full itinerary and permit availability.

The Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is one of the most well-known and protected forest areas in the country. The forest spans across approximately 900 square kilometers of core forest area and approximately 2,000 square kilometers of buffer zone. The park is known for the 300 caves and grottoes found here, including the largest cave in the world, the Son Doong Cave. In 2009 explorers from the British Caving Association discovered this massive cave. The park is located in a limestone region that is responsible for these spectacular creations. The caves and grotto system run a distance of approximately 125 kilometers, of which only about 30 kilometers of caves have been visited and researched by Vietnamese and British explorers and scientists. The caves are also home to the longest underground river. The park is named after a cave called Phong Nha cave, which is the most beautiful cave of all the others. The park in 2003 was listed under the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
