They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so then it is logical to do breakfast right. To experience this, the Pork Store Café is a place to be. Though small in dimension, the food here is huge. Every plate served is colossal, and, more importantly, delicious. It touts lots of meat on the menu (it's called the Pork Store, after all.) Ham, bacon, sausage, chops, all served with eggs, potatoes, toast and endless cups of strong coffee is served up by the friendly wait staff. If you are not feeling carnivorous, order a short stack of pancakes, omelet, French toast, or a veggie and tofu scramble. Sit at a window table or choose a stool at the counter, where you can watch all that fabulous food being prepared.
Kezar has everything that a normal pub can offer, plus it uses sustainable and locally grown ingredients, and has nice big windows that look out on the bustling activity of the Cole Valley area. The food is traditional pub fare, with burgers, sandwiches (like the classic BLT), salads, and appetizers, plus some Mexican dishes like empanadas and quesadillas. Add to that a good wine list and about fifteen beers on tap, and you've got a nice neighborhood pub, right off the N-Judah Muni line.
A popular staple at many of the city's farmers' markets, 4505 meats now offers its loyal following of meat lovers a place to sit down and dive into a platefuls of meaty goodness. Casual, friendly and a great choice for the entire family, 4505 Burgers & BBQ serves up a selection of delicious meals prepared using their traditional wood fired BBQ pit. From briskets, smoked pork spare ribs and succulent burgers, to smoked whole chickens, salads, sandwiches and vegetarian sides, this restaurant has it all. With its airy outdoor patio and quick service, dining in at 4505 Burgers & BBQ is certainly pleasant, but if you prefer to enjoy your meal at home then convenient take-away options are available as well.
Black Sands Brewery is an initiative by homebrewers for sharing their unique recipes with the general public. It is more than just a microbrewery that produces beer, it lets patrons watch the entire brewing process from start to end and learn the fermenting process. After watching and tasting samples, the on-site shop shares and sells recipes, brewing supplies and the intricate know-how so you can repeat the same fermenting procedure at home. It has specialized brewing classes under experienced instructors as well. The open-air kitchen works on the same principle and lets guests watch the chefs prepare delicious Californian breakfasts. If you have any doubt regarding the ingredients used in beers you have drunk elsewhere, the brewers here might just help you identify them.
Danny Coyle's isn't what one would call the typical Irish pub. Instead of dark lighting and memorabilia on the walls, this pub is adorned with plasma screen televisions for watching both kinds of football, is well lit and above all it is very clean. Not all the "typical" features of the Irish pub are gone, though. The friendly atmosphere is prevalent and both Strongbow and Magners are on tap. Go during happy hour and you may be able to snag the prime seating next to the bar's huge wall-sized windows. Please contact for hours and upcoming events.
This is the most unassuming of the Lower Haight dives, with lightning-fast bartenders and more microbrews than are usual at at bar. In fact, Toronado has over 50 beers on tap from such reputable breweries as Russian River and Anchor. The vibe is always good, the graffiti on the bathroom walls is legendary, and the company could not be better. When hunger strikes, you're free to bring in a sausage or three from Rosamunde right next door.
Situated at the corner of Masonic Avenue and Geary Boulevard, The Corner Store is a modern American cafe that has all the right ingredients to make it a popular hangout place for locals as well as tourists. To begin with, the interior of the light and airy cafe is beautifully furnished with modern decor and comfy tables and chairs. The open kitchen concept adds to the modern charm of the place. People walk in here for brunch, lunch or dinner with burgers, sandwiches and other modern American fare on offer. You can also sit back and relax at the open air patio setup and sip on well crafted cocktails that are served from the bar. Apart from cocktails, the bar is stocked with beverages like draft beers and wines, much to the delight of the avid drinkers.
Burgermeister is a classy, clean burger joint that has been known to tempt even the devout vegans who get a passing whiff of their organic Niman Ranch beef patties sizzling on the grill. They do have vegetarian options, such as their scrumptious grilled portobello mushroom burger and several veggie burger varieties, but honestly, the beef is ultimately the choice of many. Top your burger off with all the fresh fixings and their special zesty chipotle sauce, and share a basket of their exceptional garlic fries. There are two other locations in the city, one in North Beach and the other in Cole Valley if you cannot make it to this one.
