Great for Young Anglers
If you are a keen angler looking for a day out in the countryside, try out Oakham Farm Pools. Hidden away at the end of a farm track just off the main A429 between Wellesbourne and Ettington, these five farm pools are popular with both local anglers and visitors alike. Although they are small, all five pools are well stocked with roach, perch, carp and tench and are always a big hit with younger anglers. Note that one of the pools, Island Pool, can be reserved for small club matches requiring up to 15 pegs.

For anglers keen to fish in a highly recommended stretch of the River Avon, this site is perfect. Seven Meadows and Stannells is a mile stretch of the river at the downstream end of the Recreation Ground in Stratford town center. The stretch, which is packed with roach and chub amongst others and is moderately deep, starts at Lucy's Mill road bridge and runs along the right hand bank looking downstream to the meadow below Stannells Bridge, a former railway bridge.

If you are a keen angler, then joining the Stratford Association could be of benefit to you. For a low fee you will get full, free fishing access to the group-managed local lakes and rivers. Prices are less if you are a female, senior citizen or a child. This popular anglers' group continues to flourish with its current membership standing at over 500 people. The Kingston Pools are situated in the conservation area of a huge arable farm. A combination of mature and newer pools, Kingston offers all level of anglers the chance to catch perch, carp and bream. The abundance of trees, bushes and hedges add to the charm of this delightful site and also provides shelter from the wind in winter. Offering night time fishing by arrangement, this is truly an all year round twenty four seven site. Note that the pools offer easy parking and some of the waters are suitable for disabled anglers.

Set in tranquil surroundings adjacent to a historic water mill, this pool has existed since the 15th century. This excellent fishery is particularly renowned for its trout. Note that you can get tuition in fly-fishing here, and that there is car parking and a fishermen's lodge on the site. Even if you are not an angler, Chesterton is a lovely place for a day out. The area is full of wildlife and boasts both the aforementioned water mill and a picturesque windmill.Call for more details.

With five lakes full of bream, tench, carp and roach, on a 100 acre complex, Bishops Bowl is a heaven for anglers. The fishery offers match, pleasure and specimen carp angling on waters which differ in characteristics from large and open sheer-faced flooded disused quarries to small, shrub surrounded pools. Note that there is a large main car park for over 100 vehicles, and a cafe/coffee shop that offers a choice of hot and cold food from breakfasts and snacks to lasagne and even chilli con carne.Visit website for timings and further details.

For the best of both worlds and for a host of fish just waiting to be caught, visit Twyford Farm Angling. This anglers' paradise offers a 40-peg one-and-a-half acre pool and a one-and-a-half mile medium-paced stretch of the Middle Avon which holds 115 pegs. The latter is regarded by many anglers to be amongst the finest fisheries on the entire river. Note that both waters are suitable for disabled anglers. They are open all year around from 7am until dusk.

Escape the exigencies of the city by paying a visit to Farmoor Reservoir, situated in the pastoral landscapes of Farmoor. Brimming with coruscating blue water, this reservoir is used as a water source for the town of Swindon. This site is also a hub for water sports and activities like fishing, sailing and surfing. This water body is frequented by a number of exotic birds, including the Great Cormorant, White wagtail and the Black-headed gull. Owing to this fact, this reservoir is often hailed as a haven for bird watchers and ornithologists.
