Unveiled by Dr. Rajendra Prasad on August 14, 1957, Martyrs' Column and the surrounding green lawn serves as a tribute to those who laid down their life for the country's independence. This important landmark in Palayam is also known as Raktha Sakshi Mandapam, and is situated within close proximity to major landmarks of the city such as the St. Joseph's Cathedral to the east, Palayam Juma Masjid and Palayam Ganapathy temple to the south and Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium to the west.
