Third Man Museum

The Third Man Museum or the Dritte Mann Museum as it is known is the place to visit for all moviegoers who loved this particular classic. If you want to know more about Vienna post World War II, then you have landed at the right place as the museum has some amazing collection of artifacts, notes and documents reinstating their rich history. Established by Gerhard Strassgschwandtner and Karin Höfler put of passion for art and history, this museum takes you back in time to the dark ages in Vienna’s history and how the place came out of conflict.

Kuffner Observatory

This history observatory was originally built for private research in 1886 by Moriz von Kuffner, who was the owner of the Ottakringer Brewery at the time. Later, it operated as an educational facility after World War II until nearby light pollution hampered scientific nighttime observations. Today the Kuffner Observatory focuses on educating the public on astronomy and maintaining the historical equipment. Some of their prime exhibits include the refractor, the heliometer, and the meridian circle.

Hundertwasserhaus

Love it or hate it, this brightly colored, off-center, eco-minded transformation of a drab council block by Austrian hippy artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser in Vienna's Third District is now as much a tourist attraction as the Hofburg or Stephansdom. By declaring war on the straight line and pledging to repay a debt to nature, Hundertwasser covered the facade in a checkerboard of primary colors, added onion domes and ceramic cladding with planted lawns and trees on the rooftops. Inside, the 50 flats were given the disconcerting feature of undulating terracotta floors. Don't miss the nearby Kunsthaus Wien, another Hundertwasser transformation, housing a permanent collection of his art.

Chocolate Museum Vienna

This building is hard to miss on Willendorfer Gasse. Schokomuseum, with it's candy-like exterior decor, is Vienna's take on a whimsical chocolate factory. Replete with chocolate fountains and vintage vending machines, delight in a memorable chocoholic experience at this museum. A guided tour gives you a glimpse of the history of this art in Vienna, and ends with sampling delectable sweet treats and confections. They also offer classes and workshops where visitors can prepare their own marzipans and nougats. And with special parties organized, it is a unique way to ring in a birthday.

Josephinum-Museum of the Mecial University of Vienna

In 1785, Emperor Josef II ordered life-size, anatomical wax models of the human frame for his army surgeons because he was concerned that they should improve their medical knowledge. Anatomical studies on human bodies were not so usual then. Practical knowledge about the make up of the body under the skin was not really developed. As well as the wax models, one can see medical instruments, photos and some texts (read all about dissection of the eyeball); a little bit bizarre perhaps, but nevertheless very interesting. This collection is housed in a building designed by Isidore Canevale around 1780.

Hoher Markt

The fountain at Hoher Markt was commissioned by Karl IV in 1732 to fulfill a vow of gratitude taken by Emperor Leopold I, marking his thanks for the safe return of his son Josef from the siege of the Palatine fortress of Landau. The monument was designed by Fischer von Erlachs and was constructed using marble and bronze. The elaborate Anchor Clock at house number 10-11 was designed by the Viennese sculptor and painter Franz von Matsch. As the hand strikes the hour, figurines of famous Austrians appear from inside the clock and march across its face. At midday, pairs of figurines appear from within their glass and mosaic casing and perform a traditional dance.
