"Eventful Past"
An ancient site located close to the cities of Isparta and Burdur in the southwestern part of Turkey, Sagalassos was called “first city of Pisidia” during the Roman Imperial Era. Ever since the Hellenistic era, Sagalassos has remained one of the key towns of Pisidia. The urban settlement had to suffer several man-made as well as natural calamities including earthquakes, epidemics, poor economy and water problems. Thus, the locals were forced to leave the town and migrate in the neighboring valley. Excavations carried out here have unearthed several relics of Roman, early Byzantine and Hellenistic periods.
