Çanakkale Martyrs' Memorial

Situated inside Gallipoli Peninsula Historical National Park, Canakkale Martyrs' Memorial honors nearly 253,000 army men who died fighting in the Battle of Gallipoli during World War I. The gigantic memorial was constructed between the years 1954 and 1960 and is nestled on a towering cape on Morto Bay's north end. It comprises a museum found at its basement. The museum houses historical items chronicling the various events of Battle Gallipoli. Canakkale Martyrs' Memorial also featured on the back side of 500,000 lira currency notes circulated between 1993 and 2005.
