Cafe Citta

Located at the heart of the Welsh capital, Cafe Citta is one of Cardiff's favorite Italian restaurants. Almost a blink-n-miss on the Church Street, flanked between overpriced restaurants and businesses, this little eatery finds a niche community of patrons who love coming here for their drool-worthy, flavorsome and unpretentious Italian fare. Offering generous portions of truly delectable renditions of dishes like Pollo alla Romana, Cafe Citta is home to some of the tastiest wood-fired pizzas that Cardiff boasts of. Playing the value-for-money card, this wondrous little gem has a lot up its sleeves. There are some drool-worthy veggie options like pizza patate and penne vegetariane for our vegetarian friends too. If you're hankering for some wholesome Italian cibo, without the frills but a lot of character, Cafe Citta is the place to be!

Jewel Balti

Strangely enough, balti cooking originated not in India but in Birmingham. The style of cooking - everything together in one pot which is brought sizzling hot to the table - proved so popular that it spread rapidly throughout the UK. The Jewel Balti is one of Newport's most popular spots for a late night curry. Traditionally decorated and furnished, and managed by friendly staff, its out of town location is still close to several good pubs. The baltis are the house speciality, of course, with chicken, lamb, seafood and vegetarian options on offer. But there's also a good range of Indian dishes to choose from, from mild and creamy chicken kormas to fiery curries.

Pettigrew Tea Rooms

Located at the main entrance to Bute Park, Pettigrew Tea Rooms take the quintessential British Tea up a notch or two. Established in 2012, this charming, dainty place serves the best afternoon tea around; for which reservations are highly recommended. Offering a range of teas like their delightful Angel Tea that infuses the regular green tea with a delicious peach flavor and the lovely Lavender Grey that wafts an insane, haunting lavender aroma, this place will please even the most cynical tea critic. Apart from these amazing teas, they serve a range of elegant finger foods such as smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich, beef and horseradish sandwich and jam-topped scones before they display a long, long line of cakes - lemon drizzle, Victoria sponge, carrot and pecan, and banana bread, to name a few. If not for the teas, come over for the gourmet finger foods, if not for that, the cakes will definitely pull you in!

The Potted Pig

Located a few miles from the Cardiff Castle, The Potted Pig is housed within a former, Gringotts-esque bank vault. Although the place may look like blink-n-miss on the outside, on the inside, the dining hall is a humongous affair, befitting large families and groups. With a menu thick with English favorites with a few modern twists, The Potted Pig uses fresh, locally sourced ingredients to bring out the best in each of their dishes. Grilled steaks, pork belly and the rabbit are much recommended. The puddings are legendary here, not to be missed! Also on offer are local drinks - single malts, gins and wines; all in all, The Potted Pig makes for a brilliant dining destination.

The Hardwick

A fusion between the gastronomy of Wales plus the ales available here, is what makes the Hardwick one of the most visited places in Abergavenny. Famous for exceeding expectations, the chef and owner is known to give personal attention to each and every customer that walks through the door. What's more is that not a single customer has ever left unsatisfied, because the chef makes sure that the guests get what they need. Bon Apetit!

Giovannis Restaurant

Giovanni's is a family-run Italian restaurant in the heart of the city and has appeared on a number of TV shows. It is popular with all age groups, attracting its fair share of families as well as catering for business lunches, quiet dinners and lively parties. The atmosphere manages to be sophisticated and friendly at the same time and being only a few minutes away from St David's Hall, it is a firm favorite with concert-goers. The menu covers a full range of Italian meals, with dishes such as antipasto starters, baked trout stuffed with salmon and prawns, pepper, aubergine and courgette pizza and traditional spaghetti bolognese.
