"Italianate Governor's Villa"
Originally constructed as a private residence in 1856, the New York State Executive Mansion has been home to the state's governors since 1877. Some of the original furniture and Tiffany silver even remain as they were included with the sale of the house. There have been several renovations since the 1980s and the current undertaking is making the house "green" and eco-friendly. Free tours are granted by appointment only to groups of ten or more, two weeks in advance.
