Located in Sandia Park, Tinkertown is a quirky museum that is home to a slew of oddball and exciting sights and activities. A creation of carver and painter, Ross Ward, Tinkertown Museum houses a fortune teller, circus performers, caricatures and a huge vintage sailboat, among other delightful sights. The design of the museum is also unique, with its structures being made out of a series of bottles. Housing an eclectic mix of weird and whimsical objects and sights, a day at Tinkertown is sure to be exceedingly fun-filled.

This one-of-a-kind museum features exhibits chronicling the history of ballooning, with a special focus on Albuquerque's contribution (as "Balloon Capital of the World") to this lighter-than-air art form. Famous history-making balloons are on display, as well as other intriguing exhibits like nineteenth-century Japanese ballooning outfits, German war balloons used for bombing operations, and artifacts from the very beginning of hot-air ballooning in the late eighteenth century. The Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum facility overlooks the field from which balloons take off during the world-renowned annual Balloon Fiesta.

Explore three floors of exhibits to learn more about the telephone then you ever thought was possible at the Telephone Museum of New Mexico. Walk through the exhibits and see items from Alexander Graham Bell's workshop, photographs, switchboards, hundreds of different types of telephones, and more. Find out about unsung heroes like Susan Parks, a switchboard operator was able to inform the U.S.A. army about the attack by Pancho Villa during the actual attack. Her switchboard is on display, and you can even see bullet holes. Children will love the Learning Center with its hands-on displays and make sure you stop by the gift shop before you leave.

Visit the interactive Unser Racing Museum and learn about the exciting world of race cars and racing. Take a guided tour through the museum and admire racing memorabilia, including trophies, antique cars, uniforms, and Indianapolis 500 cars. Learn all about the sport's history, including Pikes Peak and the latest car technology. Watch interesting videos and even take a spin on a racing simulator. After exploring the museum take a trip to the gift store to find great souvenirs, including autographs.

When you walk through the doors of this Old Town museum and shop, you may find yourself warily glancing behind the door. But there are no snakes slithering about the store, their crawl space is in the back room where you will find the most complete collection of live rattlesnake species in the world. Once you have toured the museum, return to the gift shop where rattlesnake memorabilia is sold.
