"Active Church"

Construction of Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Palma started in the year 1723 after it was felt that the Chapel of Our Lady of Europe was getting too congested for the local Roman Catholic community. The new church was built on the southwest end of Plaza Altain Algeciras. Dedicated to Santa María de la Palma, the church's architecture is truly remarkable. Originally, it had two aisles and a single nave. Inside, one can find an Italian alabaster caster dating back to the 18th Century. As per a legend, the Italian sculpture belonged to a sea vessel that did not sail owing to bad weather.
