"Mausoleum of a President"

A solemn tribute to the sheer greatness of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Anıtkabir is inarguably one of the most revered sites in the whole of Turkey. Gracing the capital city of Ankara, this august mausoleum bewitches the onlooker with its colossal scale and neat, symmetrical architecture. Perched on what was then known as the Observation Hill, the site has been clearly demarcated into four sections, namely the Road of Lions, the Ceremonial Plaza, the Hall of Honor and the Peace Park. The Road of Lions is essentially a long entryway lined with elegant lion sculptures which denote both power and peace, hence igniting a sense of respect and awe in the hearts of the visitor. The Ceremonial Plaza, on the other hand, is an iridescent space swathed in colorful rugs and patterns. While the Peace Park, with its blooming acacias, silverberries and honeysuckles, enlivens the otherwise-somber expanse, it is the Hall of Honor which is the crowning glory of the entire place. Complete with eaves, columns and gilded inlaid work, this hall is where the Turkish revolutionary’s tomb is ensconced. The mausoleum grounds also harbor spacious arcades, historic sculptures and a tapestry of ten structural towers which uphold the ethos of the nation.
