California Avocado Plaque

Amidst the beautiful gardens of Parque Central, you will stumble upon a stone plaque. Gifted by the prestigious California Avocado Society in 1946, this relic is a token of gratitude to Antigua and Guatemala. California avocados are known to be the best variety globally. But little do we know, that Antigua has a great role in boosting the avocado fruit industry in California. As the fruit gained countrywide popularity in United States, the California Avocado Society sent Wilson Popenoe, an agro expert to Guatemala. He found plenty of avocado variety in Antigua and bought the seeds home. The plaque reads "A healthy growing child salutes a generous parent." This humble artefact is a sweet expression of Antigua's generosity towards California.
