The Broken Jug

This is an impressive pub and restaurant at the top of O'Rahilly Street in Ballina, and one which features in the "Pubs of Distinction 2000". As you enter through the high arched doorway you will find, in the foyer, a fascinating display of photographs of old Ballina. It is a large attractive establishment with wooden flooring, stone walls and slate floors; spacious with plenty of comfortable seating. There is an excellent carvery lunch served between 12.30pm and 3.30pm, reasonably priced at IR£6 and with generous helpings. On the second floor there is the very popular Gallery Restaurant, with an a la carte menu and a good wine list. A large beer garden to the rear of the premises is very busy during the summer months.

Mary's Tea Rooms

This is a quaint little tea room at the bottom of the main street of the village of Ballycastle. The cafe features a fine open fireplace in the centre of the room; old fashioned tables and chairs with gingham covers; small displays of fresh flowers and old stone walls displaying the work of local artists. Together it creates a very warm, inviting and relaxed atmosphere. All the food served is home-cooked and the service is what you would expect from a friendly, family-owned premises.

Dillon's

You will find Ballina's newest bar and restaurant tucked away in the beautiful cobblestoned Old Bond Store courtyard. It is a mixture of old and new and the original stone walls have some fascinating old paintings and drawings of the old market town of Ballina. The flooring, said to come from Kilmainham Gaol, adds to the wonderful character and atmosphere of the restaurant. The bar has an excellent menu during the day, while the restaurant has a bistro-styled menu offering Mexican and Italian cuisine.

The Junction Restaurant

This is a bright, very clean family restaurant in the centre of the town. The meals are plain but more than ample with an excellent breakfast menu and a range of popular dishes as well as a children's menu. They even serve tea in a proper teapot! They also sell small bottles of wine at ITR£2.70. It is generally very busy and a little cramped but the service is quick, efficient and very pleasant. Some interesting abstract landscapes with a few for sale. A carry out service is also available Fri., Sat. and Sun 10am-Midnight

The Merry Monk

This is a relatively new public house situated just outside Ballina on the road to Killala. Attractively designed and built, it has a large public bar and an elegantly furnished and decorated lounge. The emphasis throughout is on comfort, with ample seating and restful lighting being distinctive features of the design. They serve excellent bar food during the day, with lunches being particularly popular and reasonably priced. Bar bites are available of an evening and the restaurant is open at the weekend. During the season they have regular evening entertainment and there is plenty of parking space at the front of the premises.

Tracey's

A new restaurant owned and run by local girl. Situated on the main street it large glass front brightens the small dining area. There are only ten tables and a small breakfast bar. Decorated in warm pastel colours with large sunflowers in generates a very cosy atmosphere. The staff is chatty, pleasant and very efficient. Menu has something foe every body with gorgeous pancakes, home made steak and kidney pie, chicken and bacon Panini, a healthy range of salads and a substantial children's menu.
