Nestled in the Canton area of Baltimore, Annabel Lee Tavern is a local favorite named after a well known poem by the city's own Edgar Allen Poe. The cuisine is a level above the usual tavern fare, with mouth-watering dishes like the goat cheese fruit plate, pan seared duck breast, rosemary beef tenderloin gyro and a select number of gourmet desserts. According to some, the best part of their menu is the Poe themed cocktail list and variety of local brews. Whether you're coming here for a date with that special someone or just to grab a bite to eat with friends, Annabel Lee Tavern is sure to hit the spot.
One expects Italian restaurants to be romantic, and this Little Italy favorite certainly delivers. Dalesio's Of Little Italy's intimate dinning rooms are candle-lit and filled with fresh flowers, and the outdoor balcony seating is a near perfect setting for romance. The menu features many low-calorie and low-cholesterol entrées, like grilled shrimp and penne piemontese, which are perfectly healthy, yet still pack enough flavor to be worthy of Little Italy.
In south Baltimore, The 8X10 is a total entertainment complex filled with action and music every single day. You'll always see the events calender full of performances scheduled well beforehand. Before the music begins, there are beers and cocktails that you can sip on. Throwing parties at this hip venue will definitely be a memorable and fun-filled experience. On Monday nights they have an Open MIC night for the budding talents in music as well as the technical part of the performances. Sometimes such performances are recorded and the CDs are given away free to the first 50 people attending the next performance.
A typical family-owned restaurant, Chick & Ruth's Delly exudes a warm, homely feeling the minute you step in. Thanks largely to the friendly and personalized service as well as the almost communal dining experience, owing to the small size of this place. Cramping tables together, however, was a conscious decision made by the restaurant's founder who wished to cut out the formality in dining which one finds in other restaurants. Everything here spells casual, from the photo frame-dotted yellow walls to the lurid orange plastic seats. The food is typical of a deli, all fast and delicious. Chick & Ruth's challenges its patrons to stomach colossal and super-colossal sandwiches that are more than enough for 3-4 persons. Also, if you happen to check in early morning, you can join in the recitation of the pledge to the National Flag which is done every single morning here.
