Named after its owner, this gallery promotes Catalan contemporary artists like Perico Pastor and the Moscardó brothers. However, it also displays works by more renowned artists like Serra de Ribera. This gallery is located in a neighborhood that is home to the largest number of galleries in Barcelona. Its halls are situated in two different buildings in Calle Consell de Cent, close to each other. The displays here include works of upcoming and renowned painters and local and foreign artistes. Opened in 1994, this is the first center in Europe dedicated to the study of the urban metropolis seen as a universal phenomenon which helps us to analyze the social, cultural and urban development of the city, as well as its history. The Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) was built by the architect Piñón y Viaplana, on the site of the old Casa de la Caridad, a beautiful building of which a few original decorative elements remain. This is the main exhibition center in Barcelona, located in the heart of the Raval district. Apart from courses and seminars, its program includes some of the most interesting cultural initiatives in Barcelona. It also has a café-restaurant and a gift shop.
Renè Metras Gallery is located in Consell de Cent Street and was inaugurated in 1962. It displays works by contemporary artists, both Spanish and international. Previous exhibition at the gallery have included works by artists such as Isidre Marcet. Some of the artists who regularly exhibit here are Josep Veciana, Antonio Socia and María Girona. Alicia Vela has also exhibited her peculiar photographic compositions at Renè Metras.
Associated with the prestigious Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB), the Teatre CCCB is a multipurpose event venue. Featuring two event spaces, namely, Sala Teatre with a seating capacity of 600 and Sala Raval that seats 170 people, it hosts various cultural programs, lectures and exhibitions throughout the year.
