Established in 1992, Olymp & Hades is one of the most reputed book dealers in the old town of Basel. They sell all kinds of hard-to-find books, reproductions, postcards as well as translations for the discerning book lover, who needs more than the latest American bestseller. Fans of English literature can find all of their favorite novels in German. Don't be surprised to find university students and bibliophiles, hidden among the endless stacks of books.
Veloplus has over 500 square meters to sell its goods and they certainly do sell. On average, this shop stocks up to 7,000 pieces of cycling and trekking equipment. No matter if it's something you need for that daily ride to work or for a big tour, you will be sure to find it here. You can test ride saddles on a pretend bike so you don't have to commit before you sit! Sunglasses can be tried and tested in the wind canal, tents can be set up before you choose one, as can be sleeping-bags. Another good thing about Veloplus is that the shop is set up in a user-friendly and ordered way and the staff will be happy to help you with any queries you may have. Travel and route guides can also be purchased, there really is a good selection and if you're in two minds about what you're going to buy, why not decide over a cup of espresso?
The Ökoladen (Organic Store) celebrated its fifteenth anniversary a year ago. The shop was enlarged, renovated and rearranged according to the principles of Feng Shui. The range of organically produced produce is next to none and it includes exquisite olive oils, delicious antipasti, various pastas, vitamin-rich fruit juices and coffee and tea from all around the globe. Choice wines are also a specialty. Any description of the Ökoladen is incomplete without mentioning the cosmetics, stationery, natural colors and polishes and craftwork that are also sold here. Everything is produced organically and the shop practices fair trade and celebrates a certain way of life. It is situated near the Basler Stadttheater.
