Tuanjiehu Park

The design of Tuanjiehu Park is inspired by traditional gardens in Jiangnan. It consists of a 92-hectare (227-acre) park surrounded on all sides by a lake in the style of a moat. This lake is popular for a variety of water sports including water zorbing, while a beach comprising yellow sand is the place to relax and bask in the warm sunlight. Stone sculptures, colorful flowers, bridges and gazebos make this park a mini paradise. There is also a children's entertainment zone with toy trains and cars.

Baiyun Guan

The Baiyun Guan (White Cloud Temple) will probably not be on your itinerary, which is why you shouldn’t miss it when you visit the city. Built sometime back in the 700 A.D, it is not a very popular spot with tourists, so it’s a perfect pick to truly experience the local culture. It is a Taoist temple that has quite a history. Formerly serving as a military safe house and barracks for a long while after the Cultural Revolution, it is now home to the China Taoism Association. It is also home to monks who live a truly traditional Taoist life. The temple has three gateways, each of which stand for three different elements in Taoist belief: Substance, Emptiness and Desire. The temple also has sculptures and carvings of deities throughout the structure. There is a bookshop in the temple that has a few souvenirs you could take home.

Asbury Church (Chong Wen Men Protestant Church)

Asbury Church, or Chong Wen Men Protestant Church, is a beautiful example of religious architecture. With a capacity of over 2000, this historic church is one of Beijing's largest. The church was originally built in 1870, however it was completely destroyed by a fire during the Boxer Rebellion of 1900. The existing church was completed in 1904 and has since remained largely untouched. The architectural style of the church can best be described as eclectic, drawing inspiration from and blending architectural styles from around the world. Today, the church is revered both as a place of worship and a valuable historic monument. Religious services are conducted in Chinese, however an English translation of the on going sermon can be heard through headphones. Beautiful and inviting, the Asbury Church is a popular place of worship and attracts visitors from all around. Sunday services are held at 8a and 10:30a every week.

Xuanwumen

The former Xuanwumen gate served as one of the key passages built as a part of the time-worn fortifications inside the Forbidden City. Constructed in the year 1419, it was named Shunchengmen in the bygone era. During the iconic Zhentong regime, it was extended and a watchtower and a gate tower were given shape. The gate also came to be known as 'Death Gate' since, several barrows ferrying convicts for death penalty were transported through Xuanwumen to the nearby ground where executions took place. In the 1960s, its walls gave way for construction of a subway line for Beijing Subway.
