Beit She'an

by Mark10:43

"A Trip Back in Time"

Noted as one of the oldest cities in Israel, the story of Beit She'an begins nearly 6,000 years ago when it was first inhabited in the Chalcolithic era. This ancient city sits at the point where the Harod and Jordan valleys converge in the Galilee region of northern Israel. Layer upon layer, the ruins of Beit She'an span the ages, starting with the prehistoric remains and archaeological vestiges of the Egyptian occupation and Biblical periods, through to the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Crusader, Mamluk, Ottoman and British eras; Beit She'an is a single city that chronicles the long and eventful history of the nation through its architectural heritage. The highlight of the modern Israeli city is the Beit She'an National Park, an archaeological site that encompasses ruins from the Canaanite and Egyptian eras, alongside extensive portions of the Roman city. The Palladius street, Roman Temple and public baths of the Roman metropolis are some of the best preserved and most striking of the city's ancient treasures.
