Strangest Attractions in Berlin

Badeschiff is a swimming pool housed in a former river barge that now sits idyllically on the River Spree. The pool was converted from what was the hull of the vessel and attracts Berliners and tourists alike throughout the summer. At night, the establishment, which was thought up by local artist Susanne Lorenz, turns into an alfresco bar where DJs spin and beautiful 20-somethings dance the night away. During the winter, the pool is closed and several saunas are opened in its stead, making it a spot to check out no matter what time of year you visit Berlin.

Tropical Islands, located in Krausnick's former Brand-Briesen airfield, is the only place where you can visit the tropics in Germany. The 30,000 square foot complex includes an indoor rain forest, a swimming lagoon and tropical sea, several bars and restaurants, and a village featuring accurate copies of traditional buildings from Thailand, Borneo, Samoa, and Bali. At Tropical Islands, you can spend a day swimming at the beach, get a massage at the in-house spa, or take a hot air balloon ride over the park.
