"The Runner Fountain"
Depicting a runner, the Lauferbrunnen is a part of the series of fountains built around the Old City of Bern during the years 1542 and 1545. It is characterized by a statue of a man dressed in red and gray attire, along with a bear at its feet. Because the structures in the city are decades old, there is a need for constant renovation and maintenance. This fountain, which was first erected on Nydeggstalden was repaired in 1953 and was shifted to its current location on Lauferplatz. Again in 2010, it was dismantled and repainted. These efforts are symbolic of the level of importance given to preserving the rich heritage of the Old City.
