Located a few kilometers away from Thun, the heritage castle of Hünegg is remarkable for its architecture, its rich history and its breathtaking views of the Thun lake. Constructed in 1863 for a Prussian Baron, it was passed on to a number of owners before being converted into a museum in the late 20th Century. Oberhofen Castle looks as if it could belong in a fairy tale, with its idyllic lakeside location, thick stone walls, and majestic turrets and towers. Standing proudly on the shores of Lake Thun, the castle's history is a long and convoluted one. The main keep of the castle is believed to date back to 1200, when the Freiherr von Oberhofen began construction of a castle on this site. In the following years, the castle was given to the von Eschenbach and the building was expanded and a moat added. Since the 13th Century, the castle has belonged to many families and has slowly but steadily gained more turrets and other beautiful architectural details. Today, the castle is an attraction that draws romantics, artists and history lovers to the shimmering waters of Lake Thun. Schloss Münsingen is a castle that was built during the early years of the 13th Century as the permanent residence of the Steiger family. Nearly a century after its construction, the building was molded into its current form. Additions from this time include a barn that used to function as a psychiatric clinic. The structure was converted into a museum in 1977 which mainly focuses on the history of the castle and its neighborhood.
