"A Hidden Gem"

Located near the famous hill stations of Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani, Bhilar, a quaint village is a hidden gem of Satara district in Maharashtra. Enroute to the hill stations, you will catch a glimpse of a beautiful waterfall flowing down from the luscious mountains of Bhilar. This sparkling waterfall, streams down from the pristine Kundali river which will make you stop on your tracks and gaze in amazement. Once you drive up the road to the village, you would be surprised to know that beyond the greenery and scenic waterfall, Bhilar has a lot more to offer. The village is famous for producing strawberries but it’s a lesser known fact among tourists who flock the neighboring hill stations. From an unknown strawberry village, Bhilar has today made its mark on the map and rapidly gained digital media presence and how? Well, it’s all credits to to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of India and the state government, for turning this small village into a public library with around 25 centers, encouraging people to read books free of cost. Popularly called the “First Book village of India”, has an official title of “Pustakanch Gaav” (book village) and a logo of a strawberry resting on an open book, highlights the village's popular farm strawberries. With resorts and villas nearby, this village is quickly adapting into a popular tourist destination for avid readers.
