Jazz has had a long standing affair with the city of Bielefeld, with this music genre finding a very receptive and welcoming audience in the local community. Before the Bielefelder JazzClub came into being, there was a growing need felt by the jazz community in the city to have a space that was dedicated to this music. Thus in the spring of 1980, some folks came together to open the Bielefelder JazzClub. Since then, this venue has been the destination for jazz musicians and bands from all across the country, as well as abroad, to play at when they come to Bielefeld.
