There is globe in this fine bar and cafe but that not the only reason why El Globo is popular among the masses. The food and wonderful ambiance set makes this a very sought after place to catch up with friends over a cup of coffee or even wine. The subtle lightening by hanging lamps provides for a good setting. If you feel claustrophobic you could always head outside, where the service is equally great. Kindly check the website or call ahead for additional information.

The K2 is a large pub located in Somera, a busy and popular street in the old part of Bilbao. It is one of the pubs frequented on pub crawls, so there is a continuous turnover of clientèle. The pub is named after the mountain, and the walls are covered in photos of expeditions, mountains and books by new authors, mostly keen on mountaineering. Being an exhibition center, there are also photos on other subjects, which you can look at whilst having a drink. YOu can also catch a sports match on their wide screens as you munch on some pastries. The K2 is open from first thing in the morning, when a lot of students stop by for breakfast. At lunch-time there are all sorts of snacks and different kinds of sandwiches. It's better to read the menu there, but the vegetable sandwich, bacon and cheese or the pork loin and pepper are good options. At night the K2 becomes a place where young people start their night out.

The Charly is a bar in the heart of the old part of the city, under the arches in the Plaza Nueva. You can try all kinds of combo platters or fast food sitting outside on the terrace, watching the world go by. The bar offers all kinds of shellfish and its main dishes are 'rabas' (fried strips of squid or cuttlefish), tigers (mussels in spicy tomato sauce), and octopus. Its specialty is Fideua, a delicious dish made in the same way as paella, but with noodles.
