"Honoring the Civil Rights Movement"
Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument was set up in 2017 as a mark of respect for the contributions of the people of the Civil Rights Movement. Non-violent protests were a major part of this movement against racial discrimination where Birmingham played a significant role. The park also houses the A.G. Gaston Motel, which was the headquarters of the Birmingham campaign and the residence of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was an important pioneer of this movement. The National Monument also hosts other historic sites like the 16th Street Baptist Church and the Kelly Ingram Park which you can visit.
