Shot at Dawn Memorial

The Shot at Dawn Memorial was built as an ode to the 306 Commonwealth soldiers who were shot here after they were court-martialed for cowardice and deserting during the World War. The defense court later gave them posthumous pardons in 2006 so as to prevent their families from carrying the stigma. The memorial is situated inside the National Memorial Arboretum and was built by Andy De Comyn. There is a statue of a soldier who is blind- folded with his hands tied behind his back in the middle. The soldiers were said to be suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome and most of them were under age and not defended adequetly and thus the trail is often considered to be unjust. The memorial stands as a remembrance to those soldiers.
