The Hartlebury Common is a heathland situated near the town of Stourport-on-Severn. It is part of a 90 hectare (229 acre) Site of Special Scientific Interest that also includes the Hillditch Coppice. The two together also form a National Nature Reserve. The heathland is home to a variety of flora and fauna, the most populous being butterflies and moths. The site is also of historic importance because of the presence of revetted banks, holloways, quarries and pools dating from pre-history along with Neolithic and Mesolithic artefacts as well as a 19th-century rifle range. The common, with its waymarked trails and numerous car parks, is often frequented by walkers, horse riders and naturalists.
