Chiesa di San Girolamo

If you want to get to know something of the area outside the city center then we recommend that you visit this magnificent church out in the countryside. It was built at the same time as the monastery to accommodate the Certosini monks who came to Bologna in around 1333. The building is based on a upside down T-shape with a single extended nave. The whole ecclesiastical complex is actually quite big, consisting of number of rooms, cells and cloisters. The Chapel cloister dates back to the 17th Century. It has a portico supported by small columns and was called the Chapel cloister because it used to be surrounded by the monks cloister cells. There is another beautiful cloister which can be found along the right hand side of the church. It is called the Chapel of the Madonna.
