"18th-Century Baroque Arch"
Arco del Meloncello, constructed by Carlo Francesco Dotti in the 18th century CE, resulted from his winning in a competition. Its primary function was to connect Via Saragoza's portico to the path leading up to the Santuario di San Luca. Positioned high above the street, it provides a sheltered passage to the sanctuary during unfavorable weather conditions. In the 20th century CE, the arch was elevated further to accommodate passing trains. Its Baroque style lends a beautiful backdrop to the surroundings.
