Museo Storico Didattico della Tappezzeria

"Museum of Old Materials"

In 1990, the historic museum of tapestry was housed inside the 16th-century Villa Spada. The idea for the museum was conceived in 1966 by the upholsterer Vittorio Zironi and was originally located in Via Barberia. The exhibition contains a collection of 6000 pieces. Among the exhibits are silks, brocades, damasks, as well as oriental, Persian, Indian and Chinese fabrics. There are also precious materials from the 17th and 18th Centuries adorned with delightful prints. There are red Bolognese Damasks, 50 cloths from the old Arts corporations, a moire canopy from 1870 for the Blessed Virgin of San Luca. There are also ancient hand looms: one for trimmings from 1380 and one for damasks from the 1700s.
