"The Notary Guild"
This is the old site of the Notary guild. It was built at the end of the 13th Century. It is no accident that it is alongside the Basilica di San Petronio; indeed, the building's position shows just how powerful the Bolognese lawyers' guild was at one time. The building was enlarged using plans based on designs by Antonio di Vincenzo and Bartolomeo Fioravanti. The top of the building has been given a battlement effect and there are six mullioned windows which break up the main façade. These were also probably designed by Antonio di Vincenzo who was the architect of the Basilica di San Petronio. Recent restoration work has brought to light some fabulous frescoes inside the building. The most substantial building alterations in recent years were made in 1908 by Alfonso Rubbiani.
