Parco Montagnola

The park is in the center of the city and it was adapted for use as a park in the 17th Century. People say that in the Napoleonic period, public events like the greasy pole and air ballooning took place here. In 1806, an architect called Gian Battistia Martinetti began to re-organize the park and created the beautiful gardens which are there today. The pool which is at the center of the park was put there by Diego Sarti in 1888. Interestingly, the park is built on some of the castle's remains at the end razed Castello di Galliera. You can see of Via Indipendenza, at the foot of the impressive staircase which leads up to the gardens.

Ippodromo dell'Arcoveggio

An important landmark of Bologna, Ippodromo Arcoveggio is a racecourse that has been in operation since 1932. The site of a number of equestrian championships, the course has seen the like of Crevalcore and Atoll race here. Besides the historic racecourse, Ippodromo Arcoveggio also doubles up as a meeting place. There is also a playground on site while art exhibitions are hosted here frequently. Giocare ai Giardini Margherita

Do you love being outside? Are you looking for a quiet, safe place where you can go with your children? The Giardini Margherita is the perfect place to visit! It is situated in the city center, but far from the noise of the traffic and are generally full of Bolognese families. The gardens contain a pretty little lake which is full of gold fish and little turtles, and some "flying carpets" where you can jump like grass hoppers, a basketball court, a small car roundabout for very small children, and lots of open space where you can play ball games. There is also an gelato stall, a balloon seller and a cotton candy stall.

Parco Talon/Parco della Chiusa

The park in Casaleccio is probably the biggest in Bologna. It is a lovely park with benches, tables and barbecue areas. There are adventurous bicycle routes which go up into the hills and have marvellous views over the city. The River Reno flows across the park and you can go on boat trips or try canoeing in the river. You can go deep into the forest with the children using the well-marked "Brigoli" footpaths. The park is so large that there is a real risk that you will get lost; do not worry though, all roads lead to Bologna.

Parco Giardino Ducale Estense

Located in the heart of the city of Modena, Parco Giardino Ducale Estense is a beautiful garden that is lined with trees and walkways. It also features a pond that is filled with swans and a play area for children. Take a stroll along this garden and immerse yourself in its calm and serene surroundings. Overlooking the garden sits the 17th-century building Palazzina dei Giardini. Cultural programs and exhibitions are often held here.
