The perfect example of positive reuse of industrial space, the converted breadfactoy in Bonn or Kulturzentrum Brotfabrik is now a lively cultural center. The center features a theater, cinema, a cultural institute for education as well as children's workshops and a cafe. With a number of interactive programs through the year, as well as the exhibitions, performances, film screenings, dance classes and other activities; the Brotfabrik has grown into one of the most accessible and vibrant cultural spaces in the city.
Ludwig von Beethoven was born here in 1770; not in the impressive part facing the street, but in the much simpler part at the back. The house was acquired by 12 wealthy residents in 1889 and converted into a museum, which houses priceless treasures including the original, hand-written manuscripts for the the Moonlight Sonata, Pastoral Symphony and Coriolan Overture. Visitors can also admire the great composer's instruments, including a viola, grand piano, console from Remigiuskirche's organ and quartet instruments.
The Harmonie offers more than the usual pub. In summer you can grab a sunny place in the back courtyard if you get here early enough. Apart from coming here to enjoy beer, wine and small tasty dishes, people also come for the good live music. Musicians from the Jazz and Blues scene come here often to play in the Events Room, as do the cult band 'Fred Kellner and the famous Soul Sisters' featuring Anke Engelke.
The modern building of Theater Bonn Opernhaus was built in 1965. It is reached by stairs from the Rhine embankment. The green facade can be seen from a distance when walking alongside the Rhine. Special performances by famous conductors and singers are still financed by the state. The metal sculpture 'Ikarus', a gift from the Haribo owner Dr. Hans Riegel in 1993, stands on a specially laid green base in front of the main entrance.
You can see the Beethovenhalle from the Fritz Schröder Bank on the Rhine Promenade. The old building was destroyed in World War II and a new one was built between 1956-1959. In the main rooms and concert hall, concerts and congresses as well as other events often take place. In addition, you can marvel at the monumental concrete sculpture called 'Beethon' here (there is a word play with the homonym 'Beton', which is German for 'concrete'). This multi-purpose venue accommodates every kind of event.

Metropol Kuppelsaal was an old, imposing, art-deco movie theater with a beautifully crafted dome. After much debate through the years, the theater was closed down and the venue was turned into a cultural monument. Today, the space is being used by the Thalia bookstore which not only sells a wide variety of books but also organizes regular book readings by authors. The store has also collaborated with theater groups so that several theater productions take place at this venue each year. A theater experience at this historic, domed hall is definitely a treat to look forward to.
