"A Beautiful Water Tower"
Lawson Tower was originally ordered to be built by millionaire Thomas Lawson, to cover up a steel standpipe inside his estate. The architecture of this tower is said to be styled after a European castle minaret. The tower was built in 1902, and Lawson also got Meneely Bell Foundry to build 10 bells at the top of the tower. Lawson Tower stands at a height of 153 feet (47 meters), with 123 steps to the top. The Tower today is a popular tourist attraction in Scituate, and is considered one of the most beautifully designed water towers in the world.
