"Nineteenth-century Reservoir"
Created in 1870, the Chestnut Hill Reservoir was meant to support Boston's water requirements. It was formed out of already existing marshes and meadowlands and is considered to be an engineering marvel. While the reservoir itself is set in a serene location, the trail that surrounds it and straddles the Chestnut Hill neighborhood has received praise as well. It is used by several joggers for walking their pets or for evening strolls. The reservoir is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is open around the year, from dawn to dusk.
