Down Under Bar & Grill

Situated beneath the famous Base Backpackers in the City, the Down Under is the best place in Brisbane to mix with people from all corners of the globe. The atmosphere is always friendly as travelers converge to mingle, exchange stories and decide where to move on to next. A favorite amongst local students keen to hear about foreign parts of the world, it is always the rage on the weekends and dance music usually plays right until dawn. Inexpensive yet satisfying meals and bargain drink prices make the Down Under a traveler's paradise.

Royal Exchange Hotel

A hub of interaction among university students, the RE is a popular venue. The rear of the pub opens into a large beer garden with live bands often entertaining the enthusiastic crowd. Since the Royal Exchange Hotel is situated within an old hotel, there are many rooms with pool tables and seating arrangements upstairs. A small gaming machine area is also located behind the beer garden. Drinks are extremely well-priced and a bottle shop is conveniently located next door for those take-outs.

Hotel LA

Established in 1870 as Hotel Lord Alfred, Hotel LA as it is now known, is one of the iconic landmarks in Brisbane. This two-story brick structure was never an accommodation, so don't be misled by its name. It houses a restaurant and five bars along with function rooms under its roof. From comfortable dining to dancing and listening to live music, you can do a lot at this historic place. All of their spaces are distinct from the other, but serve a common purpose of being a meeting and mingling spot. Catch the latest games on either the Basement Bar or the Sports Bar. Or unwind at the Terrace bar. Sway to the DJ's beats till wee in the morning at the Barons. Their Lounge Bar is a chic venue to socialize while LA Bar & Grill is an intimate diner serving delicious meals. You can also hire these venues for private events.

The Victory Hotel

Located in the center of the city, the Victory makes an excellent early starting point for those who are keen for a big night out. The large beer garden area is the popular meeting place for many Brisbane office workers, and coupled with the cheap drink prices and excellent live bands, it is not hard to see why the crowds are often spilling onto the sidewalk. Once you have exhausted yourself with Sunday shopping, spend the “arvo” kicking back to the sounds of Australia's best rock and roll from the 1980s and 1990s.

Fat Louie's

Brisbane's original entertainment & pool hall hybrid is one of the city's best-known venues. This is the ideal way for a group of friends to have quiet drink and shoot a game of pool or two, all the while listening to the best music from the top 40 charts. There are also a number of small rooms for party groups, complete with big screen television, home cinema sound and karaoke. The bar at Fat Louie's is licensed, so unfortunately under 18s will have to find some tables elsewhere.

Transcontinental Hotel

Located directly opposite Roma Street Station is the ultra modern Transcontinental Hotel. Every night the “Trans” is like a chameleon, changing from pub sports on Monday, jam night Tuesday and a different vibe for everyday of the week. Apart from the supplied entertainment, the "Trans" has plenty of space to dance and mingle among the business and student crowd. The décor is created from a dark modern look, with technology and innovation a major focus. The drink range is wide, with some drinks available for very cheap on Thursday nights.
