Located on the northern boundaries of Glendale, the St. Mark's Episcopal Church was constructed in 1893. Designed by a renowned architect Carleton M. Winslow, the structure is a prime example of Romanesque Revival architecture adhering to an 'L' shaped outline. The eastern tower is one of the church's main attractions, featuring an extremely steep cone at is head built of turquoise colored bricks. A popular wedding venue, the church also holds services every Sunday.
If you're an out-of-towner and miss riding the plains, you can cure your equestrian nostalgia by renting a horse and riding through the Hollywood Hills and Griffith Park. There are plenty of options here, including one and two hour rides during the day for anyone over the age of seven. A very popular option is the Friday night moonlight ride. Just arrive for a three-hour round-trip ride, which culminates with dinner at a nearby Mexican restaurant.
Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round was built by the Spillman Engineering Company in the early 19th Century and was brought to the Griffith Park in 1937. This Merry-Go-Round is located at the center of the park and mounts 68 jumper horses, which are carefully carved and bejeweled. The animals jump to the tunes of the Stinson 165 Military Band Organ which plays over 1000 march tunes. The Merry-Go-Round welcomes children and adults, alike.
Draped in verdant greenery, this stunning mountain range serves as a retreat away from the city life unfolding in the vicinity. The Verdugo Mountains State Park and Open Space Preserve invites avid hikers to scale its sloping inclines replete with wooded forests, towering trees and shrublands.
