JewelCity Bowl has roomy bowling lanes and billiard tables. It’s well-maintained, centrally located, and a great place to bowl with pizza and beer in hand. Easy parking and affordable games make JewelCity popular with local families. Party and birthday packages are available, and include plenty of time in the lanes along with tokens for the small but nicely-equipped arcade. A bar and restaurant serves comfort food, American-style.
At Racer’s Ridge, visitors can climb into a cavalry of electric go-carts and race across a nine-turn track. Races are sometimes held under the glow of low-level neon lights, last about 10 minutes, and are never less than 2 miles in length. It’s a fun racing center, where birthday parties and special events are held, and racers keep track of their lap times and record their performances online. Food is often served at weekly events.
Run by the Burbank Historical Society, the Gordon R. Howard Museum is located in the historical Victorian Mentzer House. Built in 1887, you can explore this historic home and admire interesting displays and artifacts about life in the past. This small museums showcases the local Burbank history where you can view photographs that show the evolution of Burbank from a small settlement to an entertainment wonder. Tours are by appointment only.
Do you want to learn how to duel with a sword master? Look no further than Swordplay Fencing Studio. These folks trained Antonio Banderas for the movie The Mask of Zorro. Sign up for one of their classes, including classes focused on martial arts, on fitness, and on strengthening your muscles. Swordplay Fencing Studio also hosts amazing events. For one-and-a-half hours, kids seven and older take a class through a series of game-like activities from an instructor dressed as either a pirate, a knight, or in a Zorro costume.
George Westmore Research Library & Museum was created to honor the creation Hollywood make-up and hair industry. George Westmore has a hairdresser who created the first Hollywood makeup and hair department. You can look at pictures and memorabilia from the time when the actors would have to do their own makeup with their own products to the impressive industry it is today. Visits are by appointment only.
Grove Theatre Center situated in the heart of Burbank is a community theater that plays host to a wide range of home-produced theatrical performances and musicals on a regular basis.
