An inexpensive Irish bar with a warm, inviting atmosphere, the crowd here includes sports fans, college students and a few ex-patriates. At the Draft, the live entertainment varies nightly and may be DJs spinning tunes or local bands playing Top-40 hits and reggae music. On Wednesday night you can test your intellectual abilities at the weekly trivia game. Club sandwiches, burgers, steak tips, and fish and chips are among the entrees offered.
This popular sports bar has plenty of TVs and a collection of baseball cards at the bar, but the menu sets it apart from other sports bars. Try the Larry Bird sandwich—ham, turkey and Swiss cheese, the Bill Lee burger—topped with sauerkraut, Russian dressing and Swiss cheese; or any of the several salads, burgers, club rollups and chicken sandwiches named after sports figures. Down it all with one of the three dozen draught beers and while you watch the game. There is free parking behind Coolidge Corner Clubhouse.
If you've walked past Costello's and thought it looked small and grimy, with the stingy sign outside, and the slightly closed-off front entrance, you might be surprised by the size and light upon coming into the bar. The ambiance is sports bar/local tavern. There are four or five plasma TVs, all tuned to the game, but without blaring the commentary. The food is good, but don't try to get creative or you may regret it. The beer and wine selection is unimpressive, although they have a good Harpoon selection on tap. The wait staff is helpful and efficient, but don't try to ask their advice on the beer selection as they aren't terribly knowledgeable.
Cityside is a lively sports bar and restaurant which offers classic American eats, an array of beers, both on the tap and in bottles, a number of craft cocktails and a selective wine list. Throw a cocktail party or a party celebrating your college graduation in the spacious dining room, or simply relax with a drink on the patio as you watch the world go by. Come by on a sports night to catch the action on their high quality flat-screen TVs or test your knowledge at their trivia night events. Great offers on specials and interesting events keep customers coming back for more.
Cask'n Flagon is convenient for some beer before or after a Red Sox game. Expect lines at this and all of the other bars around the ballpark during the season. But once you are in, you will be among fans. The walls are covered with photos of past and present Sox stars, and there is plenty of space to keep track of the action. A 100 foot island bar, six foot projector televisions, a dance floor and a DJ-booth fill in the area for an enhanced game experience. The menu that was once mostly sandwiches and burgers, has now been upgraded to include Fried Cheese and Crab Cakes, fresh tossed pizzas and the likes. Don't let Flagon's new sparkle fool you, patrons testify it has still retained it's original easy-going sports bar atmosphere.
