"Dedication to a Goddess"
The Temple of Athena located in Paestum is a Doric structure made from limestone from local regions which dates all the way back to the sixth century BCE. The temple was part of the ancient city of Poseidonia which was established some time in the early 6th century BCE. It was thought to have been dedicated to the goddess of grain crops, Ceres, until many terracotta figurines and idols of Athena were discovered from the site. The temple had a simpler structure than some of the other temples of the same city. Much of it still remains including some of the front facade, most of the pillars which held it up and two capitals.
