Afan Forest Park

Between Neath and Maesteg, nine thousand acres of forest in the Afan Valley have been set aside for recreational use. Along with 14 different walking trails there are 35 kilometers of cycle tracks, including a mountain bike trail that links with National Cycling Route 47. With mountain streams, a mix of conifers and deciduous trees, stunning views and buzzards floating overhead, this is a wonderful place to get away from it all. If you want to explore it on horseback contact the Cimla Equestrian Centre. For cycle hire and detailed walking and cycling maps, plus a cafeteria and shop, head for the Afan Argoed Countryside Centre. This attractive slate and stone building also contains a small museum dedicated to the miners of South Wales and an open air theater with a seating arrangement for about 300 people.
