Browns

The magnificent Venetian facade of the Browns building matches its high-quality food and drink and the somewhat lavish ambiance inside. Jewel Balti

Strangely enough, balti cooking originated not in India but in Birmingham. The style of cooking - everything together in one pot which is brought sizzling hot to the table - proved so popular that it spread rapidly throughout the UK. The Jewel Balti is one of Newport's most popular spots for a late night curry. Traditionally decorated and furnished, and managed by friendly staff, its out of town location is still close to several good pubs. The baltis are the house speciality, of course, with chicken, lamb, seafood and vegetarian options on offer. But there's also a good range of Indian dishes to choose from, from mild and creamy chicken kormas to fiery curries.
