"Castle on the Taf"
Laugharne Castle overlooks the Taf estuary and the Dylan Thomas Boathouse. It was destroyed in the 13th century by Llewelyn the Great, rebuilt and then, in 1595, handed over to one Sir Parrott, who converted the castle into a Tudor mansion. His des res fell into ruin soon after his death but the fortification was still significant during the Civil War when it was captured by the Royalists. Subsequently, it became a romantic ruin, with gardens added in the nineteenth century. Extensive restoration work has recently been carried out and it's a worthwhile visit, particularly for the lush green gardens.
